NVLSP

Training

From the very beginning, one of NVLSP’s primary missions has been to train advocates in veterans law so that they can efficiently help veterans secure benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The goal of these trainings is to teach advocates how to obtain the correct amount of VA benefits for deserving veterans (and their family members) at the earliest possible time.

For over four decades, we have conducted training programs veterans service officers(VSOs), attorneys and claims agents.

On a continuing basis, NVLSP trains the VSOs of several of the largest state departments of veterans affairs. NVLSP has also conducted training for national veterans service organizations such as The American Legion,  Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars,  and AMVETS .

We have also developed and conducted training programs for attorneys in organizations including The Legal Services Corporation, The National Legal Aid and Defender Association, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and state bar associations.

Webinars

NVLSP offers live and recorded training and professional development programs for veterans advocates. Our webinar series provides a new 90-minute training on each of 10 different topics in veterans law every year. The webinars for attorneys and claims agents are approved for continuing legal education (CLE) credit by the Virginia State Bar and can be used to satisfy the attorney and claims agent CLE requirements for maintaining accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We are also available to conduct webinar training for organizations.

In-Person Training

NVLSP offers in-person training in veterans law for groups of VSOs, attorneys and other advocates who represent veterans before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Our attorneys are available to travel to a training event hosted by your organization. Our training can be used by veterans service organizations to accredit their service officers, as well as by attorneys and claims agents to satisfy the VA’s accreditation requirements. We can even create examinations to accompany our presentations. We willl work with you to customize a training program that meets the needs of your organization.

For further information or to receive a quote for private training, please contact NVLSP’s Director of Training and Publications, Rick Spataro, at richard@nvlsp.org. Pricing is based on a number of factors, including the amount of training time, travel time and expenses, and estimated material preparation time.
