Job Title: Paid Summer Internship
Position Type: Summer
The National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) is a high-impact national nonprofit veterans service organization based in Arlington, VA. Established in 1981, NVLSP's mission is to ensure that the government delivers to our nation’s veterans and active duty personnel the benefits to which they are entitled due to the disabilities that resulted from their military service.
NVLSP’s pro bono program Lawyers Serving Warriors® (“LSW”) provides free legal representation, through a nationwide pro bono network of private law firms and corporate legal departments, to disabled active duty personnel and veterans and their families. LSW assists over 600 disabled veterans per year through its pro bono network. The majority of the clients served through LSW have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), or other mental health conditions that are related to military service.
NVLSP seeks a summer law student to assist with screening discharge upgrade cases. The student will review veterans’ medical and personnel files to determine merit for pro bono placement. For meritorious cases, the student will draft a screening memo setting forth the factual and legal basis for the claim. The student will also assist with organizing LSW’s clinics (currently remote), including contacting interested veterans and scheduling appointments.
We are offering one funded position providing $22/hour for 35 hours per week. We are also happy to host a law school funded internship. The position is remote. Experience with veterans law and/or military service is appreciated.
To apply, e-mail a cover letter, resume, and list of 3 references to Rochelle@nvlsp.org, Rochelle Bobroff, Director of Lawyers Serving Warriors®, with the subject line: Summer Internship.
NVLSP is an equal opportunity employer.
