Ways to Donate
“For a group of attorneys to go out of their way for wounded warriors like myself, especially for free, is just awesome! I am a single father with two little girls who is going through some really hard times at the moment. For something like this to happen at this time is a true blessing.”

Corporate / Employer Matching Gifts
Did you know your employer may actually match the gift you give to NVLSP dollar for dollar? Many businesses — from large corporations to regional start-ups — have matching gift programs to encourage employees to donate money to charities.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, NVLSP is eligible for many matching gift programs. Just follow these three simple steps:
Check with the Human Resources department to see if your company has a matching gift program.
If the company needs our tax ID number or a copy of our IRS determination letter, please email michael@nvlsp.org or call us at (202) 621-5690.
Fill out your employer’s matching gift program application and send it with your donation or online gift confirmation to:
National Veterans Legal Services Program

Arlington, VA 22209
Some employers have an online application. Please follow the instructions from your employer to enroll in their matching gift program.
Gifts of Stock, Mutual Funds or Other Securities
A gift of appreciated securities held for more than one year may provide significant benefits to you as a contributor, such as:
Entitling you to a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted securities as of the date of gift.
Eliminating capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due if you had sold the appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds from the sale to charity.
Providing a way to help you to achieve your long-term financial objective of reducing your income and estate taxes.
If you have securities that have declined in value over the years and are interested in donating them to charity, you may find it more advantageous to sell the securities first and contribute the proceeds to charity as opposed to donating the securities outright. This strategy should allow you to claim a deduction for both the loss from the sale of the securities as well as the charitable gift.
If you are considering donating stock that is subject to a cash merger or tender offer, it's important for you to note that you will be subject to tax on the capital gains even though the shares were transferred to us before the tender offer became effective.
You should always consult with your financial advisor before initiating a charitable gift arrangement.
Ways to Donate Securities
There are two ways to make a donation of securities: 1) physical delivery, or 2) through an electronic transfer authorization. Please notify us in advance that you are making a donation, and indicate by which method.
Physical Delivery
If you have physical securities, you may deliver them in person, by registered mail, or by courier to the NVLSP office. If they are registered in your name, you will need to provide an Irrevocable Stock / Bond Power Form (Link to Irrevocable Stock/Bond Power Form)
Electronic Transfer Authorization
Your broker can electronically transfer your securities to NVLSP. Please contact michael@nvlsp.org for electronic transfer instructions.
Notify NVLSP
To ensure proper acknowledgement of your gift of securities, please notify us in advance that you are making a donation, and indicate by which method. If you are transferring electronically, we will send you transfer instructions for your broker or bank. To simplify things, we have created a Gift Notification form (link to Gift Notification Form), which can be faxed to (202) 328-0063 or mailed to:
